Visiting Portside

If your school is looking to visit Maryborough's Historical Portside Precinct contact us today to discuss the many options available.

The Bond Store was where the Imports and Exports were stored until the tariff on these goods was paid. The earthen floor and handmade clay bricks in the original 1864 section still exist today. This museum displays the early history of the Port of Maryborough through which more than 22,000 free settlers entered Australia.

The Story Bank - Discover Maryborough’s unique connection with P.L. Travers - the story of her life, her family, the influences on her writings and the retelling of her stories. Interact with the characters and settings from her popular Mary Poppins stories. Be inspired to find your own story.  The Story Bank has a great story to tell... but most of all, we invite you to come find your own story. Explore the magnificently restored heritage-listed building. Interact with displays that survey the life of P.L. Travers and her magical Mary Poppins stories. View collections of images and documents from P.L. Travers estate. Delve into the Cabinet of Curiosities and the Library of Inspiration.

The Customs House (Closed for renovations) -  The glorious colonial architecture of the Customs House and Residence, honours the once significant influence of Her Majesty’s Customs Service on the city of Maryborough. Step inside and hear the stories of immigrants who came from afar and uncover the inspirational history of the families who pioneered this important Queensland settlement.

The Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum is regarded as one of the best community museums in Australia with almost 8,000 items of military and colonial memorabilia. Built in 1879, this building has an extensive display of uniforms, historic vehicles and memorabilia including a Victoria Cross.

All museums in Portside Precinct are within walking distance and bus parking is located out the front of the Customs Residence.
